Confused on the title between me and the person i'm seeing?

So i met this guy around the middle of april. He asked me out and we had a wonderful time together... we both have had bad past relationships and are intimidated on dating again based on the past. We have went on 9 dates.. he is the first guy that I have went out on more than one date. With past relationships I would talk on the phone for a few hours and maybe go out a couple times before dating them. Welll me and this guy had decided mutually we would take things slow. I honestly think that "seeing someone" for almost 3 months is a big step for me and big change. We have slept together once and I feel as though things have got distant. I'm wondering if I should ask him what he thinks we are? or if he's just assuming we are dating? he is 8 years older so his idea of "Seeing each other" and my idea of "seeing each other" could be totally different. Any thoughts as to what i should do? The question i'm trying to ask is... do I bring this confusion up in conversation? or just go with whats going on right now and not think too much?
